What to Wear for a Studio Photoshoot
Choosing the right outfit for a studio photoshoot can completely change the feeling of your portraits. Clothing is not just about fashion — it helps create mood, emotion, elegance, and timelessness.
At Focus House Studio in Thompson’s Station, I photograph families, maternity sessions, teenagers, women’s portraits, and branding sessions. My photography style is clean, emotional, elegant, and magazine-inspired, so wardrobe plays a very important role in creating that final look.
Family Portraits
For family sessions, I usually recommend neutral and non-bright colors. Soft whites, beige, cream, black, gray, olive, deep brown, or muted tones photograph beautifully in studio lighting.
Even though the colors are calm, I always encourage families to dress slightly elevated — almost like they are going to a beautiful dinner or special event. My style is not casual everyday clothing. I love portraits that feel timeless, elegant, and emotional, where you can feel that this moment mattered.
Textures, dresses, layers, and elegant fabrics always add depth and luxury to portraits.

Teen Portrait Sessions
Teenagers should have freedom during their portrait session.
This is such an important age — full of personality, self-expression, and individuality. I always encourage parents to allow their teen to choose clothing and styling that truly reflects their own taste and worldview.
Years later, these portraits become incredibly meaningful because they capture who they really were during this chapter of life.
Whether the style is modern, edgy, soft, minimalist, or fashion-inspired — authenticity matters most.
Women’s Portraits 40+
For women over 40, I always say this: you are still allowed to feel beautiful, glamorous, feminine, and confident.
Do not be afraid of elegant dresses, bold styling, fitted silhouettes, or even a slightly sexy look. A portrait session is not about hiding — it is about celebrating yourself exactly as you are today.
Studio lighting can create incredibly refined and flattering portraits that feel cinematic, timeless, and powerful.
You deserve to exist beautifully in photographs too.
Maternity Sessions
For maternity photography, wardrobe is fully guided and styled with my help. I provide selected gowns and fabrics designed specifically for elegant studio maternity portraits.
The goal is to create soft, timeless images that focus on emotion, shape, and connection rather than trends.
Simple styling often creates the most powerful maternity portraits.
